About Us
Robert Smith
Robert is the Administrative Captain of the Silsbee Independent School District Police Department. He has over 35 years of criminal justice experience; He began his law enforcement career with the Beaumont Police Department in 1991 and was serving as a detective and polygraph examiner when he honorably retired from Beaumont PD in 2015 and became the Director of the LIT Regional Police Academy. Robert accepted a position as lieutenant with the Lamar University Police Department in October 2017and served as a Unit Commander supervising the Professional Standards Unit until August 2020. until he began working for SISD. He is also an adjunct instructor at Lamar Institute of Technology community college.
Robert has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lamar University. Robert graduated from The Texas Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Polygraph School.
At B.P.D., Robert was a detective in the Special Crimes Unit from 2005 to 2015 and investigated sex crimes, child abuse, juvenile crimes, cyber-crimes, and internet crimes against children. As a patrol officer, detective, and polygraph examiner, he has interviewed thousands of people throughout his career who were victims, witnesses, or suspects in criminal matters.
He has received specialized polygraph training and extensive training in criminal investigations, advanced interviewing techniques, cyber-crime, and internet crimes against children and has over 8000 hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training
